The Moravian Activities Council (MAC) is one of the most well-known organizations at the College. Its members’ efforts have been bringing students together for a variety of events, like Wingo and Broadway trips.

While students enjoy the many activities, few are aware of all the hard work that MAC members put into organizing the events.

“During our summer and winter retreats, we take time to brainstorm ideas for events that we think the student body would enjoy,” said Maci Kendrick, MAC representative. “We write them down and discuss the ones that we believe would benefit the student body the most.”

Marketing director Vina-Andrea Aguirre added, “That’s when we literally take three whole days from morning to night, to plan out the entire semester. It’s really fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work.”

The mission of MAC is to enhance every student’s college experience and maintain unification of the campus community through safe and fun programming.

MAC plans a variety of events, including trips to Broadway, Washington, D.C., and Phantoms’ hockey games. In addition, the club organizes movie and trivia nights, and bingo nights with $1,000 worth of prizes.

The members not only plan the weekend events but also plan the big spring event when a celebrity comes to campus.

“Every year, a few members of MAC have the opportunity to attend the National Association for Campus Activities, where they watch hundreds of performers who are interested in performing at colleges,” said Kendrick. “If we take an interest in bringing them to our campus, we are able to meet with the performers and their agents. ”

When planning to go to the National Association for Campus Activities, the representatives from MAC form a committee.

“Each representative is responsible for a certain aspect of the event, such as ticket sales, hospitality, or event set-up in order to plan efficiently,” said Kendrick. “We also plan meetings for these committees in addition to our general meetings to discuss that separate event. It is important to pay particular attention to the contracts provided by the agents in order to cater to the performer’s needs while they are on our campus.”

This year, MAC invited American actor, comedian, screenwriter, and film producer Marlon Wayans to campus on April 21. In previous years, MAC brought actor and comedian James Franco and comedian Kenan Thompson to speak to the campus community.

In order to organize these events, MAC members must be dedicated, hard-working, and team oriented.

“My favorite thing about MAC is the camaraderie that the board has,” said Kendrick. “Although we work with one another in a professional setting in order to get work done, at the end of the day, we are all family.”

Additionally, MAC is capable of impacting not only the lives of students but also the lives of its members. Aguirre explains how being the marketing director for MAC helped her realize that she wanted to become a marketing major. “When I got my foot through the door for marketing in MAC, I started marketing for USG, so I really can’t thank MAC enough for what it did for me,” she said.

MAC is a diverse and inclusive program that encourages all students to participate in their events and apply to be a part of the organization. MAC sends out applications every fall semester for students interested.

“Even though we’re smaller than other schools, I feel strongly that MAC provides some of the best programming that there is, and we get an incredible turn out at each event,” said Kendrick. “At the end of the day, college is more than just receiving an education; it is also about bonding with classmates and finding that you have the same interests as people you might not have expected to meet.”
