While it isn’t the closest to campus, The Udder Bar in Allentown has to be one of my absolute favorite places to go for a sweet treat fix! The smell of freshly baked waffles in the air welcomes customers in upon entering.
Their ice cream is extremely creamy and flavorful and they have tons of options to choose from. They have your classics, some atypical options, and seasonal flavors as well. To boot, they offer a large variety of toppings, waffles, sundaes, milkshakes, and more.
My favorite flavors are the pumpkin, Cookie Monster, and Brookie Dough. But, they have over 100 ice cream flavors in rotation, so there is always something new to try.
My go-to order is always a bubble waffle sundae. While this isn’t listed on the menu per se, the staff never has a problem substituting the normal waffle for a bubble one. And to be honest, The Udder Bar has some of the best bubble waffles that I have ever had!
They have four types of waffles: regular, bubble, waffle taco, and waffle sandwiches.
With my bubble waffle sundae, I always get edible cookie dough as one of my toppings. I have never been to an ice cream shop that serves this as a topping option, so I take advantage of it whenever I patronize The Udder Bar.
The staff are always extremely kind, helpful, and accommodating. The last time I went, I attempted to get their pumpkin ice cream flavor. My friend and I had already paid and taken a seat as we waited for our ice cream, and the employee preparing my order took the time to walk over to our table, apologize for not recognizing they were out sooner, and promptly helped me pick a different flavor and doublechecked that I still wanted the same toppings.
While this interaction seems super typical, I feel that the subtle personal touch of approaching our table rather than calling me over to the counter provided that extra level of care and attentiveness.
Even the ambiance is warm and inviting. They have floor decals with ice cream and cow and ice-cream-themed catchphrases, such as “I make ice cream disappear. What’s your superpower?” written to invite customers into the store and lead them to the ordering counter. There are also catchphrases painted on the walls and a neon sign that is perfect for a photo-op.
It is a great place to sit and chit-chat with friends while enjoying delicious ice cream. The delicacies offered are definitely worth the drive to explore a new part of the Lehigh Valley and taste its delicious offerings!
