Dear Readers,
Is it just me or does this Halloween feel much stranger than usual? Usually spooky season ends November 1st when Mariah Carey begins to defrost, but this year is much different. That’s because Halloween is not the scariest day of the year this time around, it’s November 5th.
I’m sure I don’t have to emphasize this to our readers, but, just in case, GO OUT AND VOTE! This is the most important election of our lifetimes and we are now at a crossroads with two fundamentally different views on not only policy but also on fundamental American values.
This is not a time to be sitting on the sidelines. I know many of you jaded with the two-party duopoly or may not be into politics, but the stakes are simply too high for you to just sit at home. Politics affect your daily life, so I don’t care if you’re not interested in politics because (in the words of Governor Tim Walz) politics are into you.
That said, this is our first print edition of the 2024-2025 school year! This is one of the toughest editions we’ve ever worked on, but we hope our hard work has paid off and that you all enjoy the stacked edition that lies before you.
This is the part of the semester when everything starts becoming intense and stressful. I know for many of you, it may feel like the walls are closing in on you whether it be because of classes, the election, or drama, but just remember that this is just a small blip in a much longer story and that a year from now, everything will feel like a distant memory.
I would like to thank our incredible staff for bearing through this challenging edition and working so hard on The Comenian in the most demanding part of the semester.
I hope you all have a very spooky Halloween, and try to stay sane in the shadow of the election.
Before I sign off: if you’re interested in joining The Comenian please join us at our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot make it to meetings, that is fine as well! We fully allow asynchronous participation, so don’t feel scared about not making it to meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interest you be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
That’s all from me folks! Thank you for reading our paper and be sure to check back in for future editions!
Your editor-in-chief,
AJ
