Dear Readers,
Welcome to our last edition of the semester and second physical edition of the 2024-25 school year!
Across this semester, I won’t lie: we have faced our fair share of trials and tribulations. This semester has felt very busy and intense, so I would like to thank and congratulate our staff for all of the incredible hard work they have done.
Specifically, I would like to thank Lola Offenback and Liz Kameen for everything they do for this newspaper and Moravian’s campus at large.
Liz has been my right-hand woman for almost the entirety of my tenure as editor-in-chief and, more than that, has been an amazing friend. From the moment she came up to the Club Fair table, I knew she was going to be amazing. It makes me sad that we won’t have her with us next semester while she studies abroad in Florence, but I’m so excited for her to finally not have to stress about a million things at once. I’m so excited to see all that she does next year after I graduate.
Lola has been invaluable to The Comenian over the last three years. It has been incredible to see her growth as a student, journalist, and person since she joined. It’s rare to find someone with as much grit and determination as her and I’m consistently blown away by everything she does. I can’t think of a better person to call my best friend (sorry Joel, should have gone to El Jefes with me) and now my right-hand woman, and I’m continuously thankful for all that she has done for me and The Comenian. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better friend or person, and I cannot wait to see what we can do together next semester.
Our staff also deserve humungous praise. They are some of the smartest, most dedicated people on campus, and I am incredibly grateful and humbled to have such an incredible team. Both new and old members have continuously left me speechless for all that they have accomplished this semester both in and out of the newsroom.
This also marks the end of my and Liz’s tenures in the United Student Government. While this role has come with some stress and frustration, it was incredibly fulfilling to be a part of USG and see how the fruits of our work pay off. Being on USG has pushed me to be a better communicator and leader and seeing the examples set within this organization has helped to improve my work on The Comenian. In particular, I would like to thank Kayla Beige ‘25, nursing major, and Lili Brockway ‘25, English major, for all of the hard work and dedication they exhibited as president and executive vice president and for all the support they’ve shown us despite tenuous circumstances.
Before I sign off: if you’re interested in joining The Comenian please join us at our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot make it to meetings, that is fine as well! We fully allow asynchronous participation, so don’t feel scared about not making it to meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interest you be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
That’s all from me folks! Thank you for reading our paper and be sure to check back in for future editions!
Your editor-in-chief,
AJ
