Nina Worsley is a senior at Moravian University pursuing a major in composition with a jazz vocal concentration. She began her journey as a classical piano concentration but later realized jazz suited her best. Worsley hopes to pursue as many musical avenues as she can. In her compositions, she is most drawn to religious-narrative writing. Worsley currently studies vocal jazz with instructor Lora Sherrodd, jazz piano with instructor Dave Roth, and composition with composer-in-residence Dr. Larry Lipkis.
How are you involved on campus?
I sing in the choir, big band, and have previously participated in the vocal jazz ensemble.
What is your proudest accomplishment at Moravian?
I can’t choose! My top two would be having my piece performed by the choir and my trio, “A Childhood Spring,” performed by players from the Allentown Symphony Orchestra.
Why did you choose to come to Moravian?
I had friends who had just graduated from Moravian, and I trusted their recommendation.
What are your hobbies and passions?
I love learning languages as a hobby. I’m passionate about making God smile with music.
What is your major? Why did you pick it?
My major is music composition. I’ve been writing music since I was a little girl, so it was the obvious choice for me.
What’s a little-known fact about you?
I taught myself to play piano by ear when I was four.
Favorite professor? Favorite class?
My favorite professor is Dr. Axel Hildebrandt (though I love all my professors!). My favorite class was Form with Dr. Lipkis.
What is your favorite thing to eat on campus?
Anything that’s free.
Where do you go to study or do homework?
On the Main h\Hall porch when it’s sunny; otherwise, the music library.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
In a world of Negative Nancys, be a positive Polly, a cheerful Cherry, a joyous Jenny!
