Dear Readers,
Welcome back to yet another semester! This one is particularly special because I will be graduating in May, so this is my last semester at Moravian. Don’t worry though, I’ll get sappy closer to the end of the semester. For now, I’ll keep the existential dread of finding a job and going into the real world to myself.
Regardless, I hope you all are having a good start to the semester and are fighting off the winter blues! I don’t know about you, but this winter has been especially painful. Everywhere I go, I feel like there is never a good temperature. It’s freezing outside and in some academic buildings and my dorm, I feel like I am in an air fryer.
As many of you may know, our managing editor, Liz Kameen, will be in Italy this semester. Because of this, she will be on temporary leave from The Comenian. I speak for us all when I say we will miss her this semester.
On the bright side, our former assistant editor, Lola Offenback, is now our new managing editor! She’s done amazing work for The Comenian since her freshman year, so I am incredibly excited to see everything she does this semester.
Additionally, Fatimah Bouri and Logan Palau are our two newest assistant editors. They have both done a ton of impressive work for The Comenian and I can say with confidence that they will do an amazing job.
On another note:
John Amos Comenius is the father of modern education and is a cornerstone of Moravian’s culture and history. With his statue in front of Comenius Hall, we are constantly reminded of his importance to the school and educational thought broadly.
Dr. Carl Salter from the chemistry department recently came to us with a question to ask our audience: What would Comenius – who died over 300 years ago – think of Moravian University today?
We encourage you to share your thoughts on this, whether they be serious or funny. We will send responses to Dr. Salter and his students, who will present them on Comenius’ birthday, March 28th.
As I said, this is my last semester, so I am both excited and nervous to write this final chapter in my journey with The Comenian. I plan to go out with a bang while also setting this publication up for future success, so strap in! We are just getting started this semester.
Before I sign off: if you’re interested in joining The Comenian please join us at our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot make it to meetings, that is fine as well! We fully allow asynchronous participation, so don’t feel scared about not making it to meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interest you be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
That’s all from me folks! Thank you for reading our paper and be sure to check back in for future editions!
Your editor-in-chief,
AJ
