Dear Readers,
Welcome back to another edition of The Comenian!
Additionally, happy Valentine’s Day! We have prepared a wide variety of articles relating to the season of love. Fatimah Bouri talks about mental health in relationships. I, as the token terminally single friend in every friend group, wrote about being alone on Valentine’s Day. Lyana Cintron writes about long-distance relationships. Lydia Devlin writes about the philosophy of love.
We have a lineup that will appeal to anyone experiencing this amazing or awful holiday, so I hope you all can find at least a little bit of joy today!
I will say, though, whether you love or hate Valentine’s Day, we all can agree that the mud on campus recently has been absolutely horrid. Every walk to class or the Writing Center results in a gargantuan mess all over my jeans. Do I get why it’s all over? Yeah, but I don’t have to like it. My precious luxury $20 jeans from Target cannot take any more of this suffering.
As embarrassed as I have been walking around with diarrhea pants the last week, at least I have the solace that I didn’t get called a predator at the Super Bowl Halftime Show #lifegoals. Seriously, though, that kind of absolute diabolical hater is something I can’t help but respect.
On another note:
John Amos Comenius is the father of modern education and is a cornerstone of Moravian’s culture and history. With his statue in front of Comenius Hall, we are constantly reminded of his importance to the school and educational thought broadly.
Dr. Carl Salter from the chemistry department recently came to us with a question to ask our audience: What would Comenius – who died over 300 years ago – think of Moravian University today?
We encourage you to share your thoughts on this, whether they be serious or funny. We will send responses to Dr. Salter and his students, who will present them on Comenius’ birthday, March 28th. So, send us your thoughts at [email protected].
As I said, this is my last semester, so I am both excited and nervous to write this final chapter in my journey with The Comenian. I plan to go out with a bang, while also setting this publication up for future success. So strap in! We are just getting started this semester.
Before I sign off: if you’re interested in joining The Comenian please join us at our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot make it to meetings, that is fine as well! We fully allow asynchronous participation, so don’t feel scared about not making it to meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interest you be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
That’s all from me folks! Thank you for reading our paper and be sure to check back in for future editions!
Your editor-in-chief,
AJ
