In a now-deleted viral video uploaded to TikTok, actress and singer Selena Gomez was seen crying over the arrests and deportations taking place all over the country by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), per one of the many executive orders signed by President Trump.
Gomez went on to say that she was, “so sorry all my people are getting attacked,” and added a caption, “I’m sorry,” and added a Mexican flag into the caption.
In my opinion, the whole video is ridiculous.
This billionaire is going onto TikTok to cry over offenders (albeit most offenses are misdemeanors) being removed for not only entering this country illegally, but the people being deported at this point in the new administration are violent.
However, there are non-violent illegal immigrants being arrested as “collateral,” and this complicates things because there’s a popular report circulating where a veteran was arrested for the sole reason of not identifying himself. We’re talking felons at their worst, although unfortunately now there are cases of racial profiling, too..
Selena, do you really want these people to be your people? I would hope not.
Even if “your” people aren’t threats to public safety, an estimated 11 million of “your” people entered this country illegally and therefore committed a crime according to federal law and recent border statistics. Why is someone who’s worth a whopping $1.3 Billion crying for around 11 million criminals?
I could understand if the process affects her personally, or undermines her efforts with UNICEF; however, crying on TikTok is not the way to go.
The U.S. has a legal process to enter this country, and the ones that improperly entered this country violated that process. It’s unfair for these people to just walk across the Rio Grande, and get bussed to sanctuary cities by Texas under their own program.
Those who follow the legal process go through the strict, meticulous process of entering this country for a better life. Selena Gomez seems to be crying for the wrong reasons. Maybe instead of crying for criminals, she could be crying for the victims, like Laken Riley, a 22-year old nursing student who was murdered by an illegal immigrant while jogging, or maybe about the human trafficking crisis that intensified during the weak border policy of the Biden/Harris administration.
The number of human traffickers prosecuted doubled in 2012, which is great; however, with an increase in border crossings during the Biden administration, I can’t help but wonder if bad actors are slipping away undetected.
The government and all involved nonprofits need to continue in their fight to stop the worst suspects in their tracks. Maybe Selena Gomez could contribute some of her $1.3 billion wealth if she wasn’t focused on crying for clout on TikTok and not focusing on these important issues at hand. In this video, she also cried about “the children.”
Okay, now we’re on the right track.
I appreciate Gomez’s efforts in caring for children, as she’s a UNICEF advocate; however, she doesn’t get the point across in this video because she doesn’t seem to address despicable crimes committed by those who show no respect for the law, such as Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year old girl who was murdered by two men, both undocumented immigrants from Venezuela.
I absolutely agree that children should not have to go through the whole deportation process, as this process is very confusing and stressful for them. This trauma will likely stick with them for a long time and may cause a turn for the worse.
It’s a shame that these kids have to go through a possibly traumatic experience because their parents thought they could circumvent the laws of the United States.
However, at the same time, I can’t help but question how far the new Trump administration will go.
The fact that ICE agents are being allowed into schools concerns me and others, as possible government overreach and is downright immoral. According to the recent email from President Grigsby, it seems as if ICE agents can walk onto our campus and drag people away (figuratively, hopefully), which seems a step too far in a plan with good intentions, but controversial execution.
The entire situation at the border is very touchy, as it sparks emotional reactions, debates, and almost certainly litigation up to the Supreme Court.
That’s especially true, with the whole birthright citizenship debacle, as the recent executive order related to it was recently blocked by a federal judge. At the end of the day, all of us, including those who have $1.3 billion or some sort of social status, will have to wait and see.
Until then, Selena Gomez needs to address these issues in a more legitimate way.
Going onto TikTok to cry seems disingenuous, and claiming criminals, even if they only committed misdemeanors, as her people, insults the system of law and order (even though a certain person in the White House is already doing so) at our border.
She could also use some of her net worth to help people enter the country legally, but the odds of her doing that are slim to none.
