Dear Readers,
Welcome back to another edition of The Comenian and our first print edition of the Spring semester!
As our winter blues subside, I think I speak for everyone when I say I can’t wait for the spring weather. Campus always looks stunning in the spring, and student life feels so much different with everyone out and about without rushing from building to building to avoid the frigid cold.
Spring marks new beginnings, and many of us (including me) are about to experience the ultimate new beginning. As graduation approaches, I can’t help but reflect on how much we have accomplished at The Comenian over the last four years.
While there is much room for improvement, this paper has come so far from the moribund publication it was my freshman year, and now we can proudly say that The Comenian is thriving. I am so incredibly grateful and proud of our staff, both new and old, for keeping this paper great.
Additionally, The Comenian recieved an honorary mention this year at the PA News Association awards for our diversity equity and inclusion reporting. Congratulations to one of our Assistant Editors, Fatimah Bouri, as well as former staff members Todd Reedy and Sophia Savenko for this award!
I also want to thank our new Managing Editor, Lola Offenback. She has been killing it this semester and has been instrumental in moving this operation along in a (somewhat) timely fashion, especially with a growing staff.
Before I sign off: if you’re interested in joining The Comenian please join us at our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot make it to meetings, that is fine as well! We fully allow asynchronous participation, so don’t feel scared about not making it to meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interest you, be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays, you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
That’s all from me folks! Thank you for reading our paper and be sure to check back in for future editions!
Your editor-in-chief,
AJ
