We all love Moravian and its two charming campuses! However, it feels like one campus doesn’t get as much attention as the other, especially for those of us living on South Campus. If you’re living here, you might have noticed that, compared to North, the resources seem a bit limited.
At times, it might feel like we’re the overlooked middle child of Moravian, but we still have our own unique charm and community.
Let’s discuss the dining halls. North Campus features frequent events, themed meals, and a variety of engaging activities. In contrast, we occasionally host events here, but they are scarce, leading most of us to stop anticipating them. Making the trip to The Star for an event isn’t appealing when assignments pile up.
Also, what’s with the missing buzzers in Clewell? We’re all adults who can fetch our own food, but would it have been too much to provide an update on whether the buzzers will return? Communication is key, folks; that’s all I ask!
While we’re talking dining, how about we address the absurdity of the South Campus dining hall opening later than The Star?
How is it fair that The Star opens at 7 a.m., while those of us on South have to wait? Many students have field experience, internships, or early classes and simply don’t have time to trek to North just to get breakfast. Sure, you might say, “Just prepare your own food,” but let’s be honest: not everyone has a car to get groceries, and many students constantly lack the financial means to buy their own food and cooking utensils. Food access shouldn’t be this inconvenient.
While we’re on the topic of South Campus resources, let’s talk about Clewell events. Lately, there have been more events centered around Clewell, which is great in theory but they come with a catch. Many require reservations and are scheduled at very specific times, making them inaccessible to students with busy or unpredictable schedules. Events should be something students can actually participate in, not something that feels exclusive or difficult to attend.
Let’s move on to the vending machine situation, specifically in The HILL.
Have you ever tried to get a snack on the weekend? It feels like stepping into a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Everything is raided, and with the number of people living in The HILL, Clewell, and Main Hall, the limited number of vending machines that accept Dining Dollars just doesn’t cut it.
Sure, we could walk to the dining hall, but what about when we just want a quick snack while it’s open? What about late-night study sessions when a little sugar rush is the only thing keeping us going? Having another vending machine or two is a simple fix that would make a huge difference.
Speaking of basic necessities, let’s discuss the Health Center.
Why is it closed on weekends? Why do the weekday hours feel punitive, forcing students to skip class or endure illness? Good luck if you live on South and feel too sick to trek to North. I don’t know who decided these hours make sense, but they weren’t considering the students who quickly need healthcare access — not just when it’s convenient for a 9-5 schedule.
Then there’s Mo’s Cupboard, and we truly appreciate the concept behind it! However, we think there’s room for improvement in how it’s running. North Campus enjoys regular restocks, but on South Campus, it often feels like playing a game called, “Will There Be Essentials Today?”
Spoiler alert: More often than not, the answer is no. Wouldn’t it be great to have a simple solution, like a restocking calendar? That way, we could know when to expect supplies and avoid the guessing game scrambling.
At the end of the day, we all just want to be treated equally. South Campus students pay the same tuition, enjoy living on the same campus, and deserve the same access to resources as North students. It can be pretty frustrating to feel like we’re an afterthought and eager for things to improve. A little extra effort in communication, accessibility, and essential resources would make a huge difference.
Let’s work together on this, Moravian.
