If you’re struggling to pay for food on campus, leftover food from events will be your new best friend. If an event has food, I’m there. Also, campus move-out day is basically free thrifting. Check Facebook Marketplace, thrift stores, and even the trash room near your dorm at the semester’s end. I’ve seen all sorts of belongings in perfect condition left to be thrown away during move-out week.
There are student discounts everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music, local restaurants, and all Moravian students have access to the New York Times for free. If you’re low on dough, consider side hustles like tutoring on Knack, DoorDash, or finding a campus job.
If you use Google Calendar – which, if you aren’t, why? – block out time to do chores, study, or just relax. There have been so many times that people have scheduled over my only time to do an assignment, but I don’t want to decline their meeting invite because my calendar said I was available. – Liz
Talk to someone – anyone! Easier said than done, especially during moments where you feel there’s so much to do and so little time. It’s easy to cocoon yourself from what’s going on around you, and sometimes you’ll need it. But just as everyone needs some degree of alone time, it’s forgotten that interacting with your community is just as important.
Don’t be alarmed, this doesn’t mean you have to hold an in-depth conversation with someone you just met (although that can happen, too!). Start with simple interactions: greet a worker when you walk into an establishment, introduce yourself to a classmate you’ve seen but never spoken to, or even a wave could do.
Naturally, we can shut down chances of connection with others because we’re scared of rejection. Maybe you’ll wave, and the response you get is a straight stare past you. It’s okay, it happens to me, too. Trying at least will showcase to others you’re open, which will attract more opportunities to socialize naturally. – Lyana
Remember to use your Student Discount! Several businesses around campus will give you varying discounts on their items if you present your student ID before checkout, such as The Joint Coffee Shop, Grandpa Joe’s Candy Store, and more! The full list is on the Greyhound Discounts section of the Moravian website. -Johnathan
For commuters, you should totally utilize the lockers in PPHAC! They’ve been a lifesaver on days when I have way too much to carry; just scan the QR code or email [email protected] about requesting one!
Try out new study spots for a change of scenery! If you don’t want to just go to the library to get some last-minute assignments due, the Bahnson Center has plenty of rooms and a lounge, as well as a gorgeous garden located in the back! I’d also highly recommend the PPHAC computer lab (make sure you aren’t interrupting a class in there)! – Fatimah
