ASA Hosts Charity Kickball Tournament
The ladies of Alpha Sigma Alpha spent the afternoon of Oct. 22 sponsoring a kickball tournament to raise money for the S. June Smith Center, which is ASA’s chosen philanthropic cause. There were 31 participants, and each participant was charged a $5 fee that would go toward the Center.
The S. June Smith Center supports children with disabilities in achieving their potential and promotes their full participation in their families, schools and communities of Central Pennsylvania.
The event was set up tournament style, and used brackets to decide which teams played one another. There were different rounds with a total of five games played. The tournament required students to form teams and compete against one another to be the kickball champs. Four teams were formed: one that consisted of members of the men’s and women’s tennis teams, members of the women’s lacrosse team, the men of Delta Tau Delta, and the ladies of Sigma Sigma Sigma.
ASA member Bridget Seche ,‘20, was the emcee of the event, giving play-by-plays, while Deanna Defuria, ’18, was the DJ.
Each team played competitively, using all of their strength and adrenaline to kick the ball as hard and as far as they could. The event brought back memories of pre-teen gym class. The winners of the tournament were the brothers of Delta Tau Delta, while the tennis teams, the lacrosse teams, and Sigma Sigma Sigma followed suit. The winners were awarded an arrangement of gift-cards.
While the event was a good time for all those that participated, it also helped ASA raise nearly $200 for the S. June Smith Center.
