The Hungry Hound Express is one of the newest dining features on campus this semester, and I found it to be great!
The food truck is one of the more cost-efficient options on campus. I usually get a 6-inch cheesesteak, which costs $9. I love that the food truck gives the option for the 6-inch cheesesteak because I would never be able to finish the 12-inch one.
When I go to the B&G or DeLight’s, I find myself spending $15-$20 and not being able to finish my food. At the B&G, there isn’t an option for a smaller meal like the food truck offers. Whether I get the cauliflower bites, wrap, or any other sandwich, I can’t usually finish it, and I feel like I’m wasting my money a bit. While I love the B&G and DeLight’s, too, I can’t help but feel guilty for wasting food. Because I’m a commuter, I can’t really take home leftovers because I have nowhere to store them properly. This makes the food truck the perfect option for me.
The cheesesteaks also keep me full for a long time, usually long enough for me to eat dinner at home or just need a small snack in between.
I have also tried the loaded fries and brownies. The loaded fries are $11, and you get a huge portion! I ended up splitting the fries with my friend, AJ, and we were both full. If you are on campus, you could totally store leftovers and have pretty much two meals, which would mean one meal is $5.50, which I think is a pretty good price!
The brownies are $8, and you also get a big bucket. Usually, you get between 8 and 15 pieces. You can also get caramel sauce for $.50, and I even got it for free once. My mom and grandma have even asked me to buy brownies for them because they enjoy them so much!
The food truck is also always in a prime location at prime time. It is the perfect time to get a bite to eat between classes. I always find myself going to the truck after my 11-12:10 class. My only wish is that it stayed open 30 minutes longer so I could get food after my 2-3:10 class.
Being located on the PPHAC patio is the perfect location for the truck; it is near all buildings where classes are held and close enough to the HUB to sit in the pavilion.
It’s fun when they bring the truck to new locations. As a commuter, it was especially fun when the truck was in Lox X because I and other commuters often eat lunch in my car, and it was the perfect location to grab something yummy!
I think dining did great with this new feature on campus!
