Dear Readers,
Welcome back to another edition of The Comenian! I am incredibly proud of this staff and the outstanding work they have been doing this semester. I am also amazed at how far this paper has come since my first year.
The Comenian will be tabling in PPHAC every other Monday following our edition’s releases, including this Monday, Sept. 29. We’ll have a tip box, where you can suggest story ideas, give feedback (and be eligible for a prize), and find other fun things to do, so stop by at 4 pm!
The Comenian is also offering a series of free workshops for those interested in learning about writing and photography. We have a News Writing Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Zinzendorf 100, hosted by our Managing Editor, Lola Offenback.
We’ll then host an Opinions Writing Workshop on Wednesday, Oct. 8, also from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m., and a Photography Workshop with Rey Gabriel, the president of the new photography club, the following week at the same time.
We all know what time of year it is; I hope you all are prepared for your midterms! Remember to take care of yourself and your mental health. I’ve recently gotten back into going to the gym, and I always hate to acknowledge how much better I feel when working out, but it is a fantastic stress reliever.
I personally haven’t been having the best semester, but I’ve had a lot of support from Moravian faculty and professors, as well as the Counseling Center and Chaplain’s office, so I am very thankful for them.
I did have one of the best nights of my life on Wednesday, though. I saw Chappell Roan, with Japanese Breakfast and some drag queens as her openers. She is phenomenal, and that woman knows how to put on a show. I don’t understand how someone can kick their leg over their head while belting a high note in front of pyrotechnics, but she can (and she looks good doing it).
However, this brings me to what I feel is an important topic to address: the upcoming off-year election. On Nov. 4, 2025, the off-year election includes gubernatorial and state legislative elections in a few states, as well as numerous mayoral races and a variety of other local offices on the ballot.
You may think these off-year elections are not important, but it is the opposite. It can make or break political gridlock and change the power of the political party in office by having an opposing-party-led Senate or House.
Let’s take NYC, for example: would we prefer Zohran Mamdani, a man tried and tested in politics, or Andrew Cuomo, the man who claimed his perversions were due to cultural differences, leading to the iconic phrase: “I’m not perverted, just Italian?”
Voting is crucial. Make sure you’re registered so that you can make a difference for the minorities in your life. Protect trans kids, drag culture, and vote on this Nov. 4.
Now onto our recruitment spiel:
If you’re interested in joining The Comenian, please attend our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for those who cannot attend on Wednesdays. If you cannot participate in meetings, that is fine as well; we allow asynchronous participation, so you don’t need to worry about missing meetings.
We are seeking new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more. If any of these interests you, please stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you are welcome to do so. If you want to make video essays, you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about, whether it’s news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
Thanks for reading, folks!
Your editor-in-chief,
Liz
