The Philadelphia Eagles now have a three-win streak following their 10-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Monday, Nov. 10. The Birds played away in Wisconsin at Lambeau Field in chilling 40-degree weather.
The Eagles’ 34-17 defeat on Oct. 9 by division rivals, the New York Giants, marked their second consecutive loss of the season and their first loss to the Giants since the 2023 season. That was the same night that the Phillies were eliminated from the postseason by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Let’s just say it was not a good night for Philadelphia sports fans.
Prior to the Oct. 19 game against the Minnesota Vikings, head coach Nick Sirriani gathered his players and reminded them to stay loose and have fun. The team atmosphere had been weighed down by the disheartening loss against the Giants. The defending Super Bowl champions had to reevaluate their expectations.
Sure enough, the Birds rallied against the Vikings in a 28-22 victory — a win not just for the team’s record, but also for their confidence. They would need all they could get going into their next game, once again against their rivals, the New York Giants.
In front of a home crowd of almost seventy thousand fans, the game on Sunday, Oct. 26 brought a much-needed victory against the Giants for the Eagles, donning their iconic Kelly Green throwback uniforms.
Eagles’ quarterback Jalen Hurts passed for 179 yards total. Running back Saquon Barkley put on a dominant performance, running for a total of one hundred and fifty yards in the game. The first Eagles touchdown came in the first quarter with Barkley’s sixty-five-yard rush, followed by a good kick by kicker Jake Elliot. The Giants quickly matched with a touchdown of their own in the first, and in the second quarter, the Eagles scored two more touchdowns on passes by Hurts.
The third quarter saw a field goal per team. The Eagles scored another two touchdowns in the fourth. The Giants futilely rushed for one last touchdown of the game, but ultimately the Birds came out on top with a final score of 38-20.
The first week of November was a bye week for the Eagles, and they resumed play on Monday, Nov. 10, beating the Packers in a low-action game. Both teams remained scoreless until the third quarter, when Elliot kicked a field goal to put the Eagles up by three.
No touchdown action came until the fourth. Hurts threw a thirty-six-yard pass to wide receiver DeVonta Smith, giving them a 10-0 lead. The Packers scored a touchdown towards the end of the game, but once again it proved to be in vain, and the Eagles took home a 10-7 victory for a three-game winning streak.
With eight games left in the regular season, the Eagles are in first place in the NFC East Division. The game on Sunday, Nov. 23, against division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, should be a fun game to watch. In second place in the NFC East, the Cowboys’ losing record of 3-5-1 is sure to make Eagles fans happy.
Will the defending champions go on to win another Super Bowl this year? Their 7-2 record seems promising.
However, as that two-game losing streak proved, both the team and fans need to manage their expectations. Let’s not set ourselves up for disappointment.
Go Birds.
