Moravian University Theatre will be offering its final production in the University’s Arena Theatre prior to demolition from Thursday, Nov. 16 through Nov. 19.

“The Mad Ones,” which was formally known as “The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown,” is a musical written by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk, which recounts the story of high school senior Samantha Brown who is unsure which direction to take her life.

The Moravian University production is directed by Theatre Professor Christopher Shorr and features student performers Ava Ferentinos, Hannah Kolonoski, Ry Kral, and Sherry Anderson. Senior Ben Stefan and Jaymie Roddy are the musical directors, and Emilymarie Kave is the stage manager for the presentation.

The performances on Thursday and Friday will begin at 8 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday productions will start at 2 p.m. The show is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals and runs 90 minutes with no intermission.

The Arena Theatre will be demolished following the HUB renovations beginning over Winter Break. With over 275+ years of history, the Moravian Theatre Company plans to continue performing, even if there is not a dedicated stage for theatre productions.

“Students have been doing theatre at Moravian since 1789. It is part of Moravian’s heritage,” said Professor Shorr. “Just like the character in the musical, theatre at Moravian is at a crossroads, facing the unknown. That’s a scary place to be, but it’s also a place of incredible possibilities. So I think the show is perfect for us at this moment in time.”

Junior Hannah Kolonoski relayed that the theatre space feels like a second home to her, knowing the cast and crew can help her when she’s feeling overwhelmed.

“While I do not like goodbyes, I feel that The Mad Ones is the perfect show to end our time in the Arena Theatre,” Kolonoski said. “It tells the story of self-discovery and remembering everything that has led us to where we are right now in life. This closes a chapter on Moravian University Theatre but this is far from the end for us. We just have to turn the page and see what comes next.”

The Arena Theatre is located on the ground floor of the HUB. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $10 for seniors, $5 for Moravian faculty and staff and non-Moravian students, and free for Moravian students. For reservations, email Christopher Shorr: [email protected]
