The annual Moravian College Homecoming celebration took place on Saturday, Oct. 16. The day’s festivities included a parade led by the Moravian College Marching Band, featuring  floats designed by various clubs, fraternities, and sororities.

The theme of this year’s floats was television shows. The floats were judged based on the creator’s creativity and innovativeness.

The winner of the parade was the Black Student Union (BSU) club. Their “Proud Family”-themed float and their dance routine won over the judges.

In the past three years, BSU has placed in the top three of all parade floats. According to the president of BSU, Tamara Garraway ‘18, the reason the club has been so successful in the homecoming parade is because BSU is more than a team–they are a family.

When interviewed, Garraway expressed her gratitude to the BSU members who were able to assist in creating the float and banner.  In particular, Marquise Bourgeois was named as one of the most crucial members in the creation of the “Proud Family” banner.  Other individuals who were important to BSU’s victory were the club’s advisors, Dean of Students Christopher Hunt and Liliana Madrid.

BSU was able to win because they believe in building a family atmosphere for their members. The club prides itself on allowing members to voice their opinions in order to help make the club better. This atmosphere, and their win, continue to make the club’s presence known.
