Yik Yak Yanked: Why College Students’ New Favorite App Got Banned!

For readers unfamiliar with Yik Yak, this application is marketed toward college students and young adults. The app was first released in November 2013, relaunched in 2021, but has only recently gained recognition as a new form of communication this year. The app allows users to post anonymously on Reddit-like subcategories, such as ADHD College Kids, Dining Hall Fails, and Worst of Canvas. Some categories are less skewed to the college experience, like, True Crime, Icks, and Astrology.

Moravian Yik Yak users commonly praise the shuttle for its punctuality, rave about the active nightlife here on campus and express their excitement to hear more construction while going to their 7:30 classes.

Yik Yak has been a social hub for thousands of students, giving people a space to speak freely. However, the yik yakery has made its way into the classroom; multiple professors are learning that their courses are being talked about on this app. As an act of rebellion, said professors have joined the app to better understand the minds of their students.

Moravian has just released a statement claiming that the already awful campus Wi-fi is at risk of crashing if the app continues to run on campus. After much negotiation, Moravian has officially taken itself off the list of colleges and universities offered on Yik Yak, meaning all conversations have been deleted. What kind of a world will it be now that Moravian is Yik Yakless?

Source? I made it up.
