Twenty-six articles later: so ends my time as a reporter for The Comenian.
I’ll admit it — if you told me in my first year that I’d be putting my foot into article after article, I’d probably be apprehensive about the notion. Nevertheless, this experience has been nothing short of remarkable ever since I started in October 2024.
I’ve always had an appetite for writing. I vividly recall moments in elementary school where I obsessed over a potential book or comic I could make. Initially, it was my desire to draw comics for the “Archie Comics” company, but that pipe dream fell through.
Even so, I had a desire to take in information, and an equally-sized desire to create my own works of fiction. I was inspired by fantasy and the variety of what stories could be told through the medium of writing. You could even see it reflected by the quality of my schoolwork over the years — I’d perform average in subjects relating to math or science, but anything related to the English language was a category in which I excelled.
When I started, I was in a lousy place. I was adjusting to the college shift as a transfer student fresh from high school, and I was doing my best to try new things without many friends. Luckily, the staff here has given me such a warm welcome, and I feel grateful for the opportunities I’ve had.
In my time here, I’ve met celebrities for interviews, done independent studies and received recognition for the stories I’ve reported.
As I sit here on April 17, at 11:40 A.M. EST, I close the final chapter of a part of my life. I appreciate The Comenian for allowing me to grow and develop my craft as a writer. It’s been an honor.
