Welcome to our newest edition of The Comenian! We have an abridged online version coming out today, Nov. 21, but we will be coming out with a print edition with holiday exclusives and more, so be sure to check it out Dec. 1! We distribute all over North and South Campus.
Speaking of, I want to thank all of our editors and reporters for their hard work this past semester. I was beyond anxious to take on this role, but I cannot express my pride and gratitude for the excellent journalism they have done with interviewing, producing, and editing.
A few of our new editors have taken on new roles, so I would like to congratulate them as well! Fatimah is stepping up as another Managing Editor, and she has been a huge help to me and Lola with the past few editions. She’s been with The Comenian longer than I have, and she’s seen this ragtag crew produce some amazing work.
Mo Namous is taking on the role of Assitant Editor, and I’m so proud to see how far he has come with his reporting in such a short amount of time. Megan Smith (how I wish you had joined the Comenian sooner!) will be taking on the role of Opinions Editor; Megan has produced some fantastic journalism over the past semester.
Now, onto some sadder news, I know this has been a tough semester for a lot of students, myself included, and even faculty and staff. So much hangs in the air at this time in our political climate, and sometimes I open the news and just cry. It’s exhausting to feel the weight of the world through your cellphone and feel like you can do nothing about it but watch, all while having an assignment due the next day.
So, I would like to take the opportunity to tell you to check on your friends. Make sure they’re doing okay – and do the same for yourself; you deserve that care just as much.
With finals week quickly approaching, take this time to stay hydrated and make some time for yourself, as hard as that can be. My recent recommendation is “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Sometimes I just need a dumb show to take my mind off the world, and it always leaves me with a giggle to go.
We have some great articles for you in this edition, and I hope you enjoy reading it just as much as we enjoy providing you with the news and campus happenings. Now, onto our recruitment spiel:
If you’re interested in joining The Comenian, please come to our meetings, which take place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Zinzendorf Hall, room 100. We also have secondary meetings on Thursdays at the same time and place for people who can’t come on Wednesdays. If you cannot attend meetings, that is fine as well; we allow asynchronous participation, so you don’t need to worry about missing meetings.
We are looking for new writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and more, so if any of those interests you, be sure to stop by or email me at [email protected].
The Comenian supports a wide range of content. If you want to interview students around campus, you can. If you want to make video essays, you can. If you want to make short comics, you can. Whether you want to write about news, politics, music, movies, sports, video games, food, history, or anything else, I guarantee you will have a place here.
Also, if you would like to be notified by email whenever we publish a new edition of the paper – either the online or print version – please send your address to [email protected]. We’ll add you to our email list!
Thanks for reading, folks!
Your editor-in-chief,
Liz
